New Design and No More Wordpress
I decided to update this site with a new design and get rid of Wordpress. I had been using the Simpla theme but it was time to get a new look. The Simpla theme was supposed to be a temporary solution until I created my own design, but it ended up lasting just over two years. I still have a few things I’d like to tweak with the current design, but it’s a start. Lets hope it doesn’t take me 2 years to get to.
The site is now just static html pages powered by Jekyll. Wordpress works for a lot of things but not my site. I spend so little time updating it that Wordpress was overkill and left me open to hackers. With a simple static html site there are no security holes to worry about patching. Another reason for using Jekyll is that it allows me to compose posts in simple markdown and convert it to html for the web. I’ve been using markdown for a lot of notes at work lately and really like the simplicity of it.
A Few Notes From the Move
- If you have an existing site you may be able to use Jekyll’s built in migrations
- The BlueprintCSS Bookmarklet is nice for toggling the visibility of the BlueprintCSS grid pattern
